Smokie is an English rock band from Bradford, England, formed in 1965. The band originally consisted of lead singer Chris Norman, guitarist Alan Silson, bassist Terry Uttley, and drummer Pete Spencer. Over the years, Smokie had a series of hits in Europe, particularly in Germany and Scandinavia. They had their first success with the 1975 single βIf You Think You Know How to Love Meβ, which reached No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart. This was followed by their most successful single, βLiving Next Door to Aliceβ, which reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 5 in the US in 1977.
Smokieβs most popular and successful albums include their 1976 album Midnight CafΓ©, their 1977 album Changing All the Time, and their 1978 album The Montreux Album. Midnight CafΓ© was certified Gold in the UK, while Changing All the Time was certified Platinum. Some of the bandβs most well-known songs include βLiving Next Door to Aliceβ, βOh Carolβ, βLay Back in the Arms of Someoneβ, and βIf You Think You Know How to Love Meβ.
An interesting fact about Smokie is that their first two albums were actually recorded in a church in Germany.
