Simply Red is an English pop and soul band formed in 1985 in Manchester, England. The band is led by vocalist and songwriter Mick Hucknall, who has been the only constant member throughout their career. The band has had a long and successful career, with 8 UK #1 albums, over 30 million albums sold worldwide and 13 UK top 10 singles.

Simply Red's breakthrough album, Picture Book (1985), featured the hits "Holding Back the Years" and "Money's Too Tight (to Mention)", and the album went multi-platinum. They released several more successful albums over the next decade, including A New Flame (1989), Stars (1991), and Life (1995). Their standout songs include "Holding Back the Years", "Fairground", "Stars", "If You Don't Know Me by Now", and "Something Got Me Started".

In 2002, Simply Red released the album Home, featuring the single "Sunrise". The album was their biggest selling album to date and it sold over 7 million copies worldwide. They released a further 3 albums between 2004 and 2007.

An interesting fact about Simply Red is that their name was inspired by the 1982 film Pink Floyd - The Wall. The band's vocalist and songwriter Mick Hucknall had seen the film and was inspired by the phrase β€œsimply red, simply red” that was used in the movie.
