Scott LaFaro Vinyl Records

Scott LaFaro (1936-1961) was an American jazz double bassist and composer, best known for his work with the Bill Evans Trio in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, and started playing piano at the age of four before switching to double bass at fourteen. He went on to play with the likes of Chet Baker, Stan Getz, and Charles Mingus, among others.

LaFaro's two standout albums were Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby, both recorded with the Bill Evans Trio in 1961. The former is widely considered one of the most important jazz albums of all time and features the iconic song “Gloria’s Step”. The latter includes the track “My Foolish Heart” which has become a jazz standard.

An interesting fact about LaFaro is that he was killed in a car accident at the age of 25, just three days after recording the Sunday at the Village Vanguard album. He had been playing with Bill Evans for just over a year and the album is a tribute to his incredible talent.
