Robert Cray is an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. He began playing the guitar at the age of 14 and his first band was the One-Way Street, which performed mainly in the Pacific Northwest. Cray's first solo album, Who's Been Talkin', was released in 1980 and was followed by several other successful albums, including Bad Influence (1983), False Accusations (1985), Strong Persuader (1986) and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1988). Cray's music is a mix of blues, soul and rock, with his distinctive guitar playing and vocal style being the defining elements.
Cray's most successful albums have been Strong Persuader (1986), which reached number 1 on the US Blues Albums chart, and Midnight Stroll (1990), which reached number 1 on the UK Albums chart. Some of Cray's best-known songs include "Smoking Gun", "Right Next Door (Because of Me)", "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" and "The Forecast (Calls for Pain)".
An interesting fact about Robert Cray is that he is one of the few blues musicians to have achieved mainstream success and widespread critical acclaim. His songs have been featured in films such as Rain Man, and he has performed on the legendary TV show Austin City Limits. He has also collaborated with a number of other musicians, including Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
