Red Mitchell (1927-1992) was an American jazz double bassist and composer. He was an important part of the West Coast jazz scene of the 1950s, and is considered one of the greatest jazz bassists of all time.
Some of Mitchell's standout albums include Red Mitchell Quartet (1956), Live at The Jazz Workshop (1956), and Red Mitchell and Friends (1960). Some of his most well-known songs include "Blue Monk," "Green Dolphin Street," "All the Things You Are," and "I Remember Clifford."
An interesting fact about Red Mitchell is that he was a regular member of the Stan Getz Quartet from 1956 to 1960, and was a significant contributor to Getz's classic albums Focus (1961) and Sweet Rain (1967).
