Quicksilver Messenger Service is a psychedelic rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1965. They are considered one of the most influential bands of the psychedelic era. The original lineup consisted of John Cipollina (guitar), Gary Duncan (guitar, vocals), Jim Murray (guitar, vocals), David Freiberg (bass, vocals) and Greg Elmore (drums).
Quicksilver Messenger Service released their self-titled debut album in 1968, which featured their classic song "Who Do You Love". The album was a critical success and is widely considered one of the most important albums of the psychedelic era. Their second album, Happy Trails, was released in 1969 and featured their most popular song, "Mona". The album was a commercial success and is often seen as their definitive album.
The band continued to release albums throughout the 1970s, including Shady Grove (1970), Just for Love (1970) and What About Me (1974). Quicksilver Messenger Service disbanded in 1975 but reformed in the late 1980s and have since released several live albums.
One interesting fact about Quicksilver Messenger Service is that they were the first band to play at the legendary Fillmore West, which opened in 1968.
