Peter Tosh (born Winston Hubert McIntosh) was a Jamaican reggae musician, singer-songwriter, and guitarist. He was a founding member of the legendary reggae group The Wailers, alongside Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer. He was known for his outspoken views on social injustice and his efforts to create awareness of the struggles of the Rastafari movement.
Tosh's solo career began in 1974, and he released his debut album Legalize It that same year. The album was a hit, featuring singles such as the title track, "Get Up, Stand Up," and "Equal Rights." It quickly became one of the most influential reggae albums of all time.
Tosh's follow-up album, Bush Doctor, was released in 1978. It was another hit and featured the hit singles "Bush Doctor," "Pick Myself Up," and "Stepping Razor." He continued to release albums throughout the 1980s, such as Mama Africa, Mystic Man, and No Nuclear War.
Tosh's most successful album was the 1987 compilation album, The Best of Peter Tosh. The album featured his greatest hits such as "Legalize It," "Get Up, Stand Up," and "Equal Rights." The album was certified gold in the US and UK.
An interesting fact about Peter Tosh is that he was the first person to receive a posthumous Grammy Award. He won the Best Reggae Album award for the compilation album, No Nuclear War, which was released after his death.
