Paul Kelly and The Messengers is an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1985 by singer-songwriter Paul Kelly. They have released a number of critically acclaimed albums and singles throughout their career.
Their first two albums, Talk and Gossip (1986) and Under the Sun (1987), were both certified gold in Australia and spawned hit singles such as "To Her Door," "Dumb Things," and "Before Too Long." The band's next album, So Much Water So Close to Home (1989), earned them a platinum certification in Australia and spawned the singles "Leaps and Bounds" and "Darling It Hurts."
The band's fourth album, Comedy (1991), featured the hit single "From Little Things Big Things Grow," which was co-written by Kelly and Kev Carmody and went on to become an Australian classic. Their next two albums, Wanted Man (1994) and Words and Music (1997), both achieved gold certification in Australia.
The band's most recent album, Life Is Fine (2017), was released to critical acclaim and peaked at number one on the ARIA charts. The album spawned the singles "Firewood and Candles" and "Rising Moon," and the band received five ARIA nominations for the album.
An interesting fact about Paul Kelly and The Messengers is that they have been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1997.
