Otis Spann was an American blues singer and pianist born in Jackson, Mississippi on March 21, 1930. His most influential work was as a member of the Muddy Waters Band in the 1950s, as well as his solo albums released throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

Spann's standout albums include The Blues Never Die (1959), The Bottom of the Blues (1967), and Chicago/The Blues/Today! (1970). Some of his standout songs include "It Must Have Been The Devil", "Goin' Down Slow", "Crawling Kingsnake", and "Blues For Hippies".

An interesting fact about Otis Spann is that he was the first artist to record in the famous Chess Records studio in Chicago, where the likes of Howlin' Wolf, Etta James, and Chuck Berry all later recorded.
