Nikolaus Harnoncourt Vinyl Records

Nikolaus Harnoncourt (1929-2016) was an Austrian conductor, cellist and early music specialist. He is best known for his interpretations of Baroque music and his pioneering performances of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Harnoncourt's most famous recordings include Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 and Mozart's The Magic Flute. He was also a conductor for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna State Opera and the Concentus Musicus Wien.

Harnoncourt won numerous awards for his work including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 and the Wolf Prize in Arts in 2006.

An interesting fact about Harnoncourt is that he was a passionate advocate for the use of period instruments. He argued that instruments from the time period of the music being performed should be used, as they have a different sound that could not be replicated with modern instruments. This led to the early music revival of the late 20th century.
