On his debut album "Natural Essence" in 1968, tenor saxophonist Tyrone Washington from Newark, New Jersey, presented himself as a new, vital voice in jazz. The then 23-year-old made no secret of the fact that he was primarily influenced by John Coltrane, but also a little by Albert Ayler and Archie Shepp. Together with an excellent sextet of musicians of predominantly the same age, he presented his very own mixture of post-bop with an avant-garde touch and groove-based soul jazz.
Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, completely analog remastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy tip-on gatefold sleeve, padded inner sleeve
