As one of the founders of Philadelphia soul, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes played and recorded for several decades, but the musical high point of their career was arguably when Teddy Pendergrass joined them between 1972 and 1975.
"Wake Up Everybody" from 1975 is the last album to feature his sultry voice before he went solo, and it's full of profound, uplifting and thought-provoking songs, some of which are better known for their covers than their originals. The song "Wake Up Everybody" was a radio hit for John Legend & The Roots, and "Don't Leave Me This Way" is a disco classic made even bigger by Thelma Houston. This audiophile 180-gram vinyl version contains a special bonus track: an 11-minute remix of "Don't Leave Me This Way" by the creator of the remix and the 12": Tom Moulton!
"Wake Up Everybody" is available as a 50th anniversary edition of 750 copies on dark green vinyl.
