Neutral Milk Hotel is an American indie rock band formed in Ruston, Louisiana in 1989 by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Mangum. The band is noted for their experimental sound that incorporates elements of psychedelia, folk, and indie rock. They achieved their greatest success with their 1998 album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, which has been cited by several music publications as one of the greatest albums of all time.

Neutral Milk Hotel released two albums during their active period, On Avery Island (1996) and In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998). Both albums were highly acclaimed, with In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in particular being praised for its unique sound and deep, personal lyrics. Some of the band's most popular songs include "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea", "The King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1 & 2", "Holland 1945" and "Two-Headed Boy".

An interesting fact about Neutral Milk Hotel is that the band disbanded shortly after the release of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. Jeff Mangum became reclusive and did not perform any music for a long period of time. He returned to the stage in 2013 for a series of live shows.
