Mal Waldron was an American jazz pianist, composer and arranger. He was born in New York City in 1925 and began playing the piano at the age of seven. After studying music at the Juilliard School of Music, he began performing professionally in the 1940s and eventually worked with some of the most influential jazz musicians of the time, such as John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus and Max Roach.

Waldron's most acclaimed albums include Free at Last (1958), The Quest (1961), Impressions (1962), Up Popped the Devil (1965), and Left Alone Revisited (1966). His standout songs include "Left Alone," "Soul Eyes," and "All Alone."

An interesting fact about Mal Waldron is that he wrote the song "Soul Eyes," which was famously performed by John Coltrane and recorded on the album Coltrane's Sound. The song has since become a jazz standard and has been covered by many other artists.
