Madonna is an American singer-songwriter and actress who has become one of the most iconic and influential pop stars of all time. She was born Madonna Louise Ciccone in Bay City, Michigan in 1958 and began her career as a dancer before signing a recording contract with Sire Records in 1982.

Her debut album, Madonna, was released in 1983 and spawned the international hits "Lucky Star" and "Borderline". Her follow-up albums Like a Virgin (1984) and True Blue (1986) were even bigger successes, with the former spawning the classic title track and the latter featuring the timeless ballad "Live to Tell".

Other standout albums from Madonna's illustrious career include Like a Prayer (1989), Erotica (1992), Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Her singles include "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up" and "4 Minutes".

An interesting fact about Madonna is that she is the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time, having earned more than $1.4 billion from her concert tours.
