Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band that was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1964. The original members of the band included Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Bob Burns, and Larry Junstrom. The band achieved massive success with their third album, “Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd”, released in 1973. It was the first album to feature the band’s most popular and recognizable songs, including “Free Bird”, “Sweet Home Alabama”, and “Gimme Three Steps”. The album went on to become the band’s highest-charting album, reaching number 13 on the Billboard 200.
The band went on to release several more albums throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, including “Second Helping” (1974), “Nuthin’ Fancy” (1975), “Street Survivors” (1977), and “Gimme Back My Bullets” (1976). The band’s most successful album was their fifth, “One More from the Road” (1976), which reached number 8 on the Billboard 200. Other standout albums from the band include “Skynyrd’s First and Last” (1978), “Southern By the Grace of God” (1988), and “Vicious Cycle” (2003).
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s most iconic songs include “Free Bird”, “Sweet Home Alabama”, “Gimme Three Steps”, “Simple Man”, and “Saturday Night Special”. Other popular songs include “What’s Your Name”, “I Know a Little”, “That Smell”, “The Needle and the Spoon”, and “Call Me the Breeze”.
An interesting fact about Lynyrd Skynyrd is that the band was forced to disband in 1977 due to a tragic plane crash that killed three of its members. The band reunited in 1987 and continues to tour and release music to this day.
