Lou Reed was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and poet. He was best known for his work as a solo artist, as well as his time with the band The Velvet Underground. Reed's music combined elements of rock, pop, and experimental music, often incorporating controversial and subversive lyrics.

Reed's most critically acclaimed and commercially successful album was the 1972 solo album Transformer, produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson. It featured the songs "Walk on the Wild Side" and "Perfect Day". His 1975 album Metal Machine Music was an avant-garde double album of noise music, often cited as a significant influence on later noise, industrial and experimental genres. His 1989 album New York featured the songs "Dirty Blvd." and "Romeo Had Juliette".

An interesting fact about Lou Reed is that he wrote a song about the experimental poet William S. Burroughs, titled "The Ballad of William S. Burroughs".
