Lionel Richie is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and actor. He was born in Tuskegee, Alabama and is best known for his ballads and love songs. He is a five-time Grammy Award winner, and he has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time.

Richie's debut solo album, Lionel Richie, was released in 1982 and contained the hit single "Truly". The album sold over four million copies and won Richie a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. His next album, Can't Slow Down, was released in 1983 and contained the hits "All Night Long (All Night)" and "Hello". The album won Richie two Grammy Awards and sold over ten million copies worldwide.

In 1985, Richie released his third album, Dancing on the Ceiling, which contained the singles "Say You, Say Me" and "Dancing on the Ceiling". The album was certified four times platinum and was nominated for three Grammy Awards. In 1986, Richie released his fourth album, and his most successful to date, The Definitive Collection. The album included Richie's most successful singles and was certified seven times platinum.

Richie has released multiple successful albums throughout his career, including Back to Front (1992), Louder Than Words (1996), and Tuskegee (2012). Some of his most successful songs include "Endless Love" (with Diana Ross), "We Are the World" (with Michael Jackson), "Say You, Say Me", and "All Night Long (All Night)".

An interesting fact about Lionel Richie is that he was the first African American to be named a Commodore at Vanderbilt University. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in music from the university in 2009.
