Lightnin' Hopkins (1912-1982) was a pioneering blues singer and guitarist from Centerville, Texas. He is best known for his distinctive voice, raw guitar style and lyrical improvisations. He was an influential figure in blues and country music, recording over 100 albums and singles throughout his career.
Hopkins' most acclaimed and commercially successful albums are 1967's Lightnin' Hopkins and 1968's Free Form Patterns. Other notable albums include 1973's The Texas Bluesman, 1976's Picture on the Wall, and 1981's Last Night Blues.
Notable songs include "Mojo Hand," "Katie Mae," "T-Model Blues," "Trouble in Mind," and "Baby Please Don't Go."
An interesting fact about Lightnin' Hopkins is that he was a friend of legendary jazz musician John Coltrane and was featured in the documentary film Chasin' the Trane (2016).
