Lee Morgan was a jazz trumpeter and composer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began his career playing in the Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey big bands, and made his first recordings with Blakey in 1956. Morgan released his first album as a leader in 1958, titled “Introducing Lee Morgan”, and went on to record more than 30 albums in his lifetime. He was best known for his hard bop style, and his standout albums include “The Sidewinder” (1964), “Search for the New Land” (1964), and “Cornbread” (1965). Morgan’s most famous songs include “The Sidewinder”, “Totem Pole”, “Search for the New Land”, and “Sidewinder Blues”.
