Kiri Te Kanawa is a New Zealand-born soprano opera singer. She is renowned for her performances of works by Mozart, Strauss, Verdi, Handel, Puccini and many other composers. She is also well-known for her interpretations of arias and traditional songs from the Maori culture of New Zealand.

Te Kanawa has released many albums, but some of her most noteworthy are Kiri Sings Gershwin, Simply Kiri, Kiri Te Kanawa - The Decca Recital, Kiri Te Kanawa Sings Puccini, and Kiri Te Kanawa Sings Strauss. Some of her most popular songs include "Una voce poco fa," "O mio babbino caro," "Vissi d'arte," "Voi che sapete," "Vieni, t'affretta," and "Ombra mai fu."

An interesting fact about Te Kanawa is that she was the first New Zealand singer to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. She sang the role of Desdemona in Verdi's Otello in 1983, and received a standing ovation.
