Kikagaku Moyo is a psychedelic rock band from Tokyo, Japan, formed in 2012 by members Go Kurosawa (guitar/vocals), Kotsu Guy (bass), Tomo Katsurada (guitar/vocals) and Daoud Popal (drums). Drawing from a range of influences including traditional Japanese music, drone, folk and classical, the band has developed a sound of their own. Kikagaku Moyo’s debut album, “Mammatus Clouds”, was released in 2013 and was well-received by critics and fans alike. Their second album, “House in the Tall Grass”, was released in 2016 and was an even bigger success, garnering praise from outlets such as Pitchfork and The Guardian. Other standout albums include “Masana Temples” (2018) and “Kikagaku Moyo” (2019). Kikagaku Moyo has released a number of standout songs over the years, including “Kogarashi”, “Dripping Sun” and “Green Sugar”. An interesting fact about Kikagaku Moyo is that the band’s name translates to “geometric patterns” in Japanese, which is a reference to the band’s psychedelic sound.
