Kenny Dorham Vinyl Records
Kenny Dorham was a jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader. He was a major figure in the development of hard bop, and was a founding member of the Jazz Messengers. Dorham's career spanned four decades and included a long tenure with Blue Note Records.
Dorham's most well-known album is the 1960 classic Quiet Kenny, which featured Dorham's compositions "Lotus Blossom" and "Blue Bossa". His other notable albums include Whistle Stop, Show Boat, and Hot Stuff. He was also featured on several albums by Art Blakey, such as A Night at Birdland, and albums by Max Roach, such as Percussion Bitter Sweet.
Dorham wrote the jazz standard "Blue Bossa", which has been recorded by many artists, including Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, and McCoy Tyner. Other popular compositions by Dorham include "Minority", "Little Pony", and "Short Story".
An interesting fact about Kenny Dorham is that he was a member of the very first incarnation of the Jazz Messengers, the quintet co-led by Art Blakey and Horace Silver.
