Kai Winding (1922-1983) was a Danish-American jazz trombonist and composer. He is most known for his work in jazz combos, particularly in the 1950s and '60s. His early career included collaborations with jazz greats such as Miles Davis and Stan Getz, and he later went on to form a series of trombone-led bands.

Winding's standout albums include "The Incredible Kai Winding Trombones" (1957) and "More Kai Winding Trombones" (1958). The albums feature Winding's arrangements of popular songs of the time and are considered to be essential recordings of 1950s jazz.

Winding's biggest hit was his instrumental version of the song "More," which reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959. Other notable tracks include "Tuxedo Junction" (1959), "C Jam Blues" (1961), and "Java" (1962).

An interesting fact about Kai Winding is that he was a pioneer in the use of the trombone in jazz. He developed a unique style of playing that featured long, lyrical lines and an open sound. He was also the first trombonist to use a mute to create an "air" sound, a technique that has since been adopted by many other trombonists.
