João Gilberto (1931-2019) was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and guitarist who is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential musicians of the 20th century. He is best known for creating the bossa nova genre and popularizing the use of the acoustic guitar and vocal improvisation in popular music.
