Joanna Newsom is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Nevada City, California. She is best known for her singular vocal style and intricate harp-playing. Newsom began her career in music at a young age, performing at local coffeehouses and school talent shows.

Newsom's first album, The Milk-Eyed Mender, was released in 2004 to critical acclaim. This album was followed by 2006's Ys, which featured orchestrations from composer Van Dyke Parks and was named Album of the Year by the New York Times. Newsom's third album, Have One on Me, was released in 2010 and earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Folk Album.

Newsom's most recent album, Divers, was released in 2015. The album was praised by critics, with Pitchfork awarding it Best New Music and the Guardian calling it "one of the best albums of the year." Some of Newsom's standout songs include "The Book of Right-On," "Emily," and "Sapokanikan."
