Isaac Hayes (1942-2008) was an American singer-songwriter, actor, producer and civil rights activist who rose to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his music. He is best known for his soul and funk music and his signature song, “Theme from Shaft”, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1972.

Hayes released several albums during his career, including Hot Buttered Soul (1969), Black Moses (1971) and Joy (1973). His most popular songs include “Theme from Shaft”, “Walk on By”, “Soul Man” and “I Stand Accused”.

An interesting fact about Isaac Hayes is that he was the first African-American composer to win an Academy Award. He was also an ordained minister and a vegetarian.
