Superfuzz Bigmuff, first released in 1988, is the debut EP by Mudhoney and a cornerstone of the grunge movement that would soon erupt from Seattle. Named after the fuzz pedal that defined its sound, the record captures the raw energy, distortion, and sneering attitude that set Mudhoney apart. Songs like Touch Me I’m Sick and In ’n’ Out of Grace became underground anthems, blending garage-punk fury with heavy riffs and a sardonic sense of humor.
The EP’s six tracks are short, sharp blasts of noise and attitude, but beneath the chaos lies a blueprint for the sound that would influence Nirvana, Soundgarden, and countless others. Superfuzz Bigmuff distilled punk, metal, and psychedelic influences into something loud, dirty, and unmistakably Northwest. Decades later, it still stands as both a cult classic and one of the most important releases in shaping the identity of grunge.
