Groove Metal
Groove metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that combines the low-tuned, heavily distorted guitars and double bass drumming of traditional metal with the rhythm and groove of funk and blues. It emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a response to the lighter sound of alternative metal, which was becoming popular at the time. Groove metal is characterized by its heavy and powerful sound, intense drumming, and its use of strong riffs and basslines. Its lyrical themes often focus on themes of anger and aggression. Notable bands that are often credited with pioneering the genre include Pantera, White Zombie, and Machine Head.
