Glenn Frey was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actor. He was best known as one of the founding members of the rock band, The Eagles. He co-wrote and sang on many of their most popular songs, including "Take It Easy," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "Tequila Sunrise," and "Hotel California." He was also a successful solo artist, with hits like "The Heat Is On," "Smuggler's Blues," and "You Belong to the City."
Frey was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1948 and started playing music in his teens. He first achieved fame as part of Bob Seger's backing band in the early 1970s. He co-founded The Eagles in 1971 and they released their debut album, Eagles, in 1972. It included the hits "Take It Easy," "Witchy Woman," and "Peaceful Easy Feeling." The Eagles released five more studio albums, and all of them were huge successes. Their biggest album was the 1976 release, Hotel California, which included the title track, "New Kid in Town," and "Life in the Fast Lane."
Frey released his first solo album, No Fun Aloud, in 1982. It included the hit single, "The Heat Is On," which was featured in the movie Beverly Hills Cop. He followed this with 1985's The Allnighter, which spawned the hits "Smuggler's Blues" and "You Belong to the City." In 1994, Frey reunited with The Eagles and they released Hell Freezes Over, an album of live performances and new songs.
Glenn Frey passed away in 2016 due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia. An interesting fact about Frey is that he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, first in 1998 as a member of The Eagles, and then again in 2021 as a solo artist.
