Gillian Welch is an American singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. She is best known for her folk and bluegrass style music and has been active in the music scene since 1996. Welch has released six studio albums. Her debut album Revival was released in 1996, and her most recent album, Boots No. 1: The Official Revival Bootleg, was released in 2020. Her standout albums include Time (The Revelator) (2001), Soul Journey (2003), and The Harrow & The Harvest (2011). Her songs "Orphan Girl", "Look at Miss Ohio", and "Elvis Presley Blues" are among her most popular. Her songs often focus on themes of heartache, death, and loss. An interesting fact about Welch is that she is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, fiddle, and banjo. She also co-wrote the song "I'll Fly Away" with her musical partner David Rawlings. The song was featured in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? in 2000.
