Genya Ravan (born Goldie Zelkowitz, 1945) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. She is best known as the lead vocalist of the influential proto-punk band Goldie & the Gingerbreads. She has also had a successful solo career.

Goldie & the Gingerbreads released their debut album, Here’s Goldie & the Gingerbreads, in 1964. The group gained fame in the United States and Europe, playing gigs with the likes of The Rolling Stones and The Who. They released two more albums in 1965 and 1966 before disbanding.

Ravan launched her solo career in 1969 with her debut album, Genya Ravan, which featured the single β€œPiece of My Heart”. She went on to release five more solo albums, including Goldie Zelkowitz (1970), And I Mean It (1972), Urban Desire (1975), Goldie Ravan (1977), and Word Hard, Play Hard, Pray Hard (1979). Her standout songs include β€œCherry Bomb”, β€œThe Wind”, and β€œMy Little Red Book”.

An interesting fact about Genya Ravan is that she was one of the first women to produce records. She produced and co-wrote the song β€œCherry Bomb”, which was later covered by the all-female rock band The Runaways.
