Gang Starr Vinyl Records
Gang Starr was an influential hip-hop duo from New York City, composed of the late Guru and DJ Premier. The group was active between 1989 and 2003 and released six studio albums, two compilation albums, and several singles.
Their debut album, No More Mr. Nice Guy, was released in 1989 and featured singles such as “Manifest” and “Just To Get A Rep.” Their follow-up album, Step in the Arena, released in 1991, was critically acclaimed and featured the singles “Who’s Gonna Take The Weight” and “Just To Get A Rep.”
Their third album, Daily Operation, released in 1992, was their most successful and featured singles such as “Take It Personal” and “Ex-Girl to the Next Girl.” Their fourth album, Hard to Earn, released in 1994, featured the singles “Mass Appeal” and “Code of the Streets.”
Their fifth album, Moment of Truth, released in 1998, featured the singles “Above the Clouds” and “The Militia.” Their sixth and final album, The Ownerz, released in 2003, featured the singles “Skills” and “Rite Where U Stand.”
Gang Starr is credited with influencing many of the hip-hop acts that followed them, including Kanye West, Jay-Z, and A Tribe Called Quest. An interesting fact about Gang Starr is that their name was inspired by the group's former manager, who used to refer to them as "The Gangsters of Rap".
