Fiona Apple is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. She gained fame in the mid-1990s after the release of her debut album, Tidal. The album was critically acclaimed and spawned the hit single "Criminal", which earned Apple a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance in 1998.

Apple's second album, When the Pawn..., was released in 1999 and was even more successful than her first, debuting at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over 1 million copies. It was led by the single "Fast as You Can" and earned Apple her second Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

Apple's third album, Extraordinary Machine, was released in 2005 and was praised by critics. It was led by the single "Parting Gift" and also included the popular track "O' Sailor".

Apple's fourth album, The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, was released in 2012. The album was well received and featured the singles "Every Single Night" and "Werewolf".
