Faust is a German experimental rock band that formed in 1971 and is often credited with being one of the earliest and most influential bands of the krautrock genre. They are most well known for their 1973 album, The Faust Tapes, which was recorded on a four-track reel-to-reel machine and featured a wide variety of sound effects and samples.
Some of their standout albums include The Faust Tapes (1973), Faust IV (1973), So Far (1972), and The Faust Concerts (1976). Notable songs include "It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl," "Meadow Meal," "The Sad Skinhead," and "Just a Second (Starts Like That!)."
An interesting fact about Faust is that they were one of the first bands to make use of sampling technology, pioneering the use of found sounds and samples in their music. They were also one of the earliest proponents of improvisation in rock music.
