Fat Freddy's Drop is a seven-piece New Zealand band founded in 1999 in Wellington, New Zealand. The band's music is an eclectic mix of reggae, soul, dub, jazz, funk, and hip-hop.

Fat Freddy's Drop's breakout album, Based on a True Story, was released in 2005 and is considered one of their most popular and successful albums. The album features some of the band's most popular songs such as "Wandering Eye," "This Room," and "Hope." The album was certified Platinum in New Zealand, and was released in Europe and North America in 2006.

In 2009, Fat Freddy's Drop released their second album, Dr. Boondigga & The Big BW. The album featured singles such as "Pull the Catch," "The Raft," and "Roady." The album was certified double Platinum in New Zealand, and earned the band a nomination for the 2010 New Zealand Music Awards for Album of the Year.

In 2015, Fat Freddy's Drop released their third album, Bays. The album features singles such as "Slings & Arrows," "Wairunga Blues," and "Clean the House." The album was certified Gold in New Zealand, and earned the band the 2016 New Zealand Music Award for Best Group.

An interesting fact about Fat Freddy's Drop is that the band was originally formed as a live dub/reggae sound system. The band members used to play in various bands in Wellington before forming the group in 1999.
