Erykah Badu is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress who rose to fame in the late 1990s. She is often regarded as the “First Lady of Neo-Soul” and is credited with helping define the genre.

Her 1997 debut album Baduizm is considered a classic, and featured the Grammy-winning single “On & On”. Other popular songs from the album include “Appletree”, “Otherside of the Game”, and “Sometimes…”. Her fourth album, New Amerykah Part One (2008) was a departure from her previous work and featured a more experimental, electronic-influenced sound.

In addition to her music, Erykah Badu is also known for her bold fashion choices and activism. She is a vocal advocate for women’s rights and has been involved with a number of social justice causes, including the Black Lives Matter movement.
