Demis Roussos was a Greek-Egyptian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who became one of the most successful singers of the 1970s. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he moved to Greece at the age of 12 and began his musical career in 1966 as a member of the progressive rock band Aphrodite's Child.

Roussos's solo career began in 1971 with his debut album, On the Greek Side of My Mind. His biggest hits from this period include “My Reason” and “Forever and Ever”, both of which reached number one in the UK. His 1973 album Forever and Ever was certified gold in the UK and spawned the hit singles “My Friend the Wind” and “Goodbye My Love, Goodbye”. Other standout albums from his career include 1975's Souvenirs, 1977's Magic and 1980's The Roussos Phenomenon.

His biggest hits include “My Reason”, “Forever and Ever”, “My Friend the Wind”, “Goodbye My Love, Goodbye”, “Happy to Be on an Island in the Sun”, “Island of Love”, “Quand je t’aime”, and “From Souvenirs to Souvenirs”.

An interesting fact about Demis Roussos is that he was an avid sailor and often sailed around the world on his yacht. He even wrote a song about his sailing adventures, “Island of Love”.
