Dead Kennedys is an American punk rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1978. The band rose to fame in the early 1980s and was one of the first American hardcore punk bands to make a significant impact in the United Kingdom. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist Jello Biafra, guitarist East Bay Ray, bassist Klaus Flouride, and drummer Ted. Their debut album, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables (1980), was an underground hit and is now regarded as a classic of the genre. Other standout albums include Plastic Surgery Disasters (1982), Bedtime for Democracy (1986), and Frankenchrist (1985).

The band is known for their politically charged and often satirical lyrics, which covered topics such as police brutality, the Reagan administration, and the dangers of the mass media. Some of their most popular songs include “California Über Alles”, “Holiday in Cambodia”, “Kill the Poor”, and “Too Drunk to Fuck”.

An interesting fact about Dead Kennedys is that their original name was “The Vomit Maniacs”, which was changed when their drummer Ted left the band in 1979.
