David Oistrach Vinyl Records

David Oistrach (1908-1974) was a Russian violinist, widely considered one of the greatest of all time. He was born into a Jewish family in Odessa, Ukraine, and began playing the violin at age five. He studied with Pyotr Stolyarsky and Leopold Auer, two of the most renowned violin teachers of the day. Oistrach went on to have a distinguished career as a soloist, recording artist, and concertmaster of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra.

Oistrach's most acclaimed recordings include his 1954 rendition of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major with the London Symphony Orchestra and his 1960 recording of the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic. His interpretations of Beethoven's Violin Concerto, Sibelius's Violin Concerto, and the Bach Double Concerto with his son, Igor Oistrach, are also highly acclaimed.

An interesting fact about David Oistrach is that he was a noted collector of antiques and owned a large collection of fine violins. He also taught his son, Igor, to play the violin and they often performed together.
