Roth was born in Bloomington, Indiana and raised in Pasadena, California. He began his musical career as the lead singer of Van Halen in 1974. He was a member of the band until 1985 when he decided to pursue a solo career.

An interesting fact about David Lee Roth is that he was a certified scuba diver and often took underwater photographs. He was also the first person to use a bungee cord in a music video for the song "California Girls".
