Dave Brubeck (1920-2012) was an American jazz pianist and composer. His greatest success came in the 1950s and 1960s with his quartet, which included saxophonist Paul Desmond, bassist Eugene Wright, and drummer Joe Morello.

Brubeck's standout albums include Time Out (1959), which featured the hit single "Take Five," and the Grammy Award-winning Jazz Goes to College (1954). Other notable albums include Brubeck Time (1954), Time Further Out (1961), and The Real Ambassadors (1962). His most popular songs include "Blue Rondo a la Turk," "Take Five," "Unsquare Dance," and "The Duke."

An interesting fact about Dave Brubeck is that he was the first modern jazz musician to be featured on the cover of Time magazine, in 1954. He was also the first jazz musician to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1996.
