Country Joe McDonald is an American folk singer, songwriter, and guitarist who rose to fame as the frontman of the 1960s psychedelic rock band, Country Joe and the Fish. He was born in Washington, D.C. in 1942 and grew up in El Monte, California. He began playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager and formed his first band, The Marbles, in 1965.

McDonald's first solo album, Thinking of Woody Guthrie, was released in 1967. His second album, Here I Go Again, was released in 1968 and featured the hit single, "The 'Fish' Cheer/I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag". This song became an anthem of the anti-Vietnam War movement. McDonald's most successful album, Vietnam Experience, was released in 1969 and featured the protest song "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag" as well as "The Fish Cheer".

Other standout albums and songs include "Electric Music for the Mind and Body" (1967), "Reunion" (1970), "Paradise with an Ocean View" (1971), "War War War" (1971), "Superstitious Blues" (1972), "Rock & Roll Music from the Planet Earth" (1973), "Hold On It's Coming" (1975), and "On My Own" (1976).

An interesting fact about Country Joe McDonald is that he was a founding member of the band, Country Joe and the Fish, which was one of the first psychedelic rock bands of the 1960s.
