Contemporary R&B

Contemporary R&B (also known as Neo-Soul or simply R&B) is a genre of popular music that is a fusion of rhythm and blues and other genres such as hip hop, soul, funk, jazz, and reggae. It emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and is characterized by its use of live instrumentation, multi-layered harmonies, and soulful vocals. Its popularity grew in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when many mainstream artists such as Destiny's Child, Usher, and Alicia Keys embraced the genre. Since then, Contemporary R&B has become one of the most popular genres in the United States and around the world.
