Big Joe Turner (1911-1985) was an American blues and jazz singer who is considered one of the pioneers of rock and roll. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he began singing in church choirs at a young age. He eventually became a professional musician, singing in clubs and bars around the city.

Turner had a powerful and deep voice, which earned him the nickname "The Boss of the Blues." He is best known for his hit songs "Shake, Rattle and Roll" (1954) and "Flip, Flop and Fly" (1955). Other notable songs include "Honey Hush" (1953) and "Corrine Corrina" (1956).

Turner's most successful albums include Rock 'n' Roll (1954) and The Best of Big Joe Turner (1960). He also released numerous live albums throughout his career.

An interesting fact about Big Joe Turner is that he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He is also credited with inspiring the blues-influenced style of rock and roll that was popularized by Elvis Presley.
