Antal Dorati was a Hungarian-American conductor and composer born in Budapest in 1906. He is best known for his work with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (now the Minnesota Orchestra) during the 1940s and 1950s. Dorati's recordings with the orchestra earned him international acclaim and several Grammy Awards. He also conducted major orchestras around the world, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and the London Symphony Orchestra.
Some of Dorati's most notable recordings include his interpretations of the works of Béla Bartók and Dmitri Shostakovich. His album, The Symphonies of Beethoven, was also widely praised.
Dorati's standout song is probably his rendition of Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. He also composed several operas, including The Captive and The Miracle of Marcellino.
An interesting fact about Dorati is that he was the first conductor to record all nine of Beethoven's symphonies in their entirety. He was also the first conductor to record a complete cycle of Tchaikovsky's symphonies.
