Andrew Hill (June 30, 1931 – April 20, 2007) was an American jazz pianist and composer, who was an important figure in the jazz avant-garde and post-bop movements of the 1960s. He was noted for his complex compositions and for his use of non-traditional elements in his music.

Hill's most acclaimed albums include Point of Departure (1964), Smokestack (1965), Compulsion (1966), and Black Fire (1963). His albums are known for their highly individual sound and approach, which often featured unusual instrumentation, intricate arrangements, and unorthodox song forms.

Notable Hill songs include "Pumpkin", "Dedication", "Lament for Booker Ervin", "Old Devil Moon", "Dance with Death", and "Verne". He was also the composer of the jazz standard "Soul Special".

An interesting fact about Andrew Hill is that he was the first jazz artist to record an album exclusively composed of his own original material. This album was the critically acclaimed Black Fire, released in 1963.
