Amii Stewart is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She is best known for her 1979 disco hit, "Knock on Wood," which reached number one on the U.S. and U.K. singles charts. Born in Washington D.C., Stewart began her singing career in the late 1970s, when she was asked to sing background vocals for the group Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes.

Her debut solo album, Paradise Bird, was released in 1978 and featured her breakthrough hit "Knock on Wood," which was later covered by several other artists, including Eddie Floyd, David Bowie, and The Pointer Sisters. She followed up the success of "Knock on Wood" with the single "Light My Fire," which reached number two on the UK Singles Chart in 1979.
