We Release Jazz presents Shoals, a striking full-length album from Earth and Bones, the collaborative project of Idris Rahman and Liran Donin of Ill Considered. A five-track suite of ambient, spiritual jazz, the record explores shamanic traditions, healing, and the balance between darkness and light through a deeply meditative soundscape.
Driven by Donin’s double bass and shakers and Rahman’s bass clarinet, tenor sax, shell, and Tibetan singing bowl, the music is a contemplative, ritualistic experience that channels both human and natural energies. The duo describe the album as a call to reconnect—with one another, with the animal world, and with the healing power of collective unity: “We can’t make it alone without our shoal.”
The record’s visual counterpart comes from Dutch artist Vincent de Boer, whose artwork draws on the organic flow and structure of a school of fish, symbolising improvisation, interdependence, and the invisible bonds that connect us all. His illustration reflects the album’s themes of ecological harmony and spiritual interconnectedness across all forms of life.
