Amadeus-Quartett Vinyl Records

The Amadeus Quartet was a classical music string quartet founded in 1947 in Salzburg, Austria. It is regarded as one of the greatest string quartets of the 20th century. It consisted of members Norbert Brainin (violin), Siegmund Nissel (violin), Peter Schidlof (viola) and Martin Lovett (cello).

The Amadeus Quartet recorded extensively for Deutsche Grammophon and was one of the first chamber music ensembles to record the complete set of Haydn's string quartets, a project completed in 1966. Their other notable recordings include works by Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms, Bartók, and Schoenberg.

Notable albums include their 1959 recording of Mozart's "The Six Quartets Dedicated to Haydn", as well as their 1971 recording of Brahms's "String Quartets, Op. 51 Nos. 1 & 2".

One interesting fact about the Amadeus Quartet is that they made their first recording in 1951, but did not receive an official recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon until 1955.
